All are invited to attend the Klickitat County Poverty Simulation. Did you know that here in Klickitat County 15.5% of our residents live below the Federal poverty level?
Poverty is complex and the experience of living in poverty is not something that can be understood very well by those of us who have never had the experience. This Poverty Simulation is designed to give participants a better understanding of what living in poverty is really like, and moves people to think about how we can address the problem. Participants will take on various roles in which they need to provide food, shelter, and other basic necessities for their families by accessing various community resources. At the end of the simulation there is a debriefing period with a trained facilitator.
The Poverty Simulation is scheduled for March 6, 9:00—12:00 at Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon. People who are interested in attending the Poverty Simulation should RSVP to Leslie Naramore at leslie@wgap.ws There is room for 80 participants and this will fill up quickly. Childcare and lunch will be provided.
Poverty Simulations were started by a Community Action Agency in Missouri. It is the first step to getting people and communities engaged. Our target audience with this simulation is local persons who can make a difference, like YOU, people who have the desire to better understand the realities that our families, neighbors, and communities face every day. Please forward this invite along to anyone who might be interested.
