SUMMARY:White Salmon Wildflower Festival Kicks Off!
DESCRIPTION:White Salmon Wildflower Festival is nestled in the largest scenic area in America\, The Columbia River Gorge.\n\nThe White Salmon Wildflower Festival unites our community to celebrate the natural beauty in and around White Salmon by advocating for the preservation and appreciation of wildflowers. The founding principles of ecotourism guide the White Salmon Wildflower Festival\; responsible travel to natural areas that conserve the environment\, sustains the well-being of the local people and involves interpretation and education.\n\nWith over 800 species of wildflowers surrounding White Salmon\, there are unlimited opportunities to appreciate and learn! Did you know there are 15 wildflowers endemic to the Columbia River Gorge and not found anywhere else in the world? You can learn about these wildflowers during a guided hike or educational workshop. Did you know that the White Salmon Library has an open-pollinated seed library to preserve genetic diversity? Seed saving is something humans have done for over 10\,000 years! And planting native wildflower seeds promotes the health of bees\, butterflies\, hummingbirds\, and other pollinators!\n\nAshley Erdely\, the author of Meet the Wildflowers and White Salmon local\, notes that young children are hungry for knowledge and connection to their world. As often as not\, when they see a flower\, a butterfly\, or a particular cloud formation\, it will be for the first time. The freshness of that experience invites wonder\, curiosity\, and questions. Multiple lines of research demonstrate that outdoor exploration and the experience of nature can be crucial to kids' development\, mental health\, and spirituality.\n\nYoung at heart or age\, the White Salmon Wildflower Festival has a program for you. Please explore our programs by visiting wildflowerfestival.org and joining us in celebrating wildflowers all month long in White Salmon\, the Washington State Wildflower Capital!\n\nLeave no trace and marvel at the beauty of wildflowers. Welcome to the 2nd annual White Salmon Wildflower Festival.
