The $18 dinner and program begin at 6 p.m. The 7 p.m. program only is just $5 at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center\, 5000 Discovery Drive\, in The Dalles.\n\nThe dinner menu is curried chicken with jasmine rice\, beet and goat cheese salad\, dinner rolls\, and dessert. Purchase tickets by August 14. For tickets and information call 541-296-8600 ext. 201\, or visit www.gorgediscovery.org\n\nBurke will outline the Bonneville Power Administration's service during World War II and the impact it had for decades to come. Even before the U.S. entered the war at the end of 1941\, the production of metallurgy and aluminum was ramping up along the Columbia\, due to the readily available and abundant hydropower from the Bonneville and Grand Coulee dams\, transmitted by direct service from BPA.\n\nThe program is highlighted by historical photos from BPA's extensive photo archives\, and the rarely-seen color film "Power Builds Ships\," about the acceleration of the ship building industry in Portland and Vancouver in the onset of the war. \n\nBurke's program will include a new section on the aluminum industry along the Columbia after the war\, highlighting the plant in The Dalles.
